The brand logo for the 1998 World Cup in France was designed by French design agency ASDA and was presented on 20 September 1994. It shows a soccer ball rising over the horizon of the earth like the sun. The colours used are the red and blue of the French flag and black.

Mascot

Name:

Footix

Species:

Rooster

Designer:

Fabrice Pialot

In May 1996, a mascot was introduced named “Footix” by Fabrice Pialot. The choice was greatly well at France as the traditional symbol of the nation. The name came from “Football”, and the popular comic strip “Astérix” as the last two letters “-ix”. The mascot’s colors reflect those of the host nation’s flag and home strip: a rooster wearing a blue jumpsuit, a red crest and with the words ‘France 98’ colored in white.
